Jakarta – To show commitment in support Islamic Economic education in the country, Bank Muamalat Indonesia and Yayasan Bhakti Masyarakat Ekonomi Syariah (MES) collaborated to distribute scholarships with a total value of IDR 150 million, – for 15 students this year. That commitment is evidenced by the cooperation agreement made between BMI with MES on Tuesday (23/2) at Bank Muamalat Indonesia Office, Jakarta.
“It’s part of our commitment to develop education, we hope this effort will produce the next generation who could carry on the islamic economic development program in Indonesia,” said President Director of Bank Muamalat, Endy Abdurrahman in a press release received by the media.

According to him, so far, islamic economic industry is still lacking the human resources to support its development.

“This is the first cooperation between BMI with MES Foundation,” says Endy. Furthermore, the program will be continued every year in hopes the scholarship fund collected will also be increased.

Endy said, the source of scholarship funds is taken from the company’s zakat fund which is a part of its profit and also zakat collected from its employees. The zakat fund itself is managed by Baitulmaal Muamalat, which is then entrusted to MES Scholarship Foundation as an implementing partner of Bank Muamalat.

“MES Foundation selected by Bank Muamalat as a partner because the institution was committed to supporting the islamic economic development through increased human resources in education,” says Endy.

Similarly, the Chairman of the MES Foundation for Education, Prof. Dr. Firmansjah was interested in cooperation with BMM because Islamic economic human resource is still very less in number.

“In addition, there are many students who excel in Islamic economics but they lack the funds in their learning,” said Firmansjah who is also rector of Paramadina University.

“MES – Muamalat Scholarship will later be distributed to the students of the Islamic economic undergraduate program, especially those who are poor.” Said Achmad Iqbal, Executive Director of MES central board.
